I Must Confess I have tried to work and think against my conscience but without success. It is too hard for me to give a blind eye to something that is wrong and morally unacceptable. My conscience is really not compatible with blind loyalty. It refuses to allow me to think along partisan and tribal lines. I only feel relieved when my conscience is satisfied that my thinking faculty is not at variance with the truth. I strongly believe that we can only progress as a nation when we put tribal and partisan sentiments aside and work towards the development of our country. I feel deeply disturbed when I hear people fighting for the comeback of some of the NPRC boys that looted and plundered our country like a farm without an owner. The NPRC regime was a complete disgrace to the people of Sierra Leone and the international community. They said they ousted the APC administration of a highly corrupt stupid drunkard and womanizer called JS Momoh “to make a speedy conclusion of the rebel war”, but they only succeeded in amplifying it. They dragged the war from Boedu to Freetown through what came to be known as the “sobel” phenomenon. They raped the country in broad daylight with impunity and carried two summary executions – committing some of the most heinous human rights violations. Even important objects lefted behind by the British colonial administration were looted from the State House by the NPRC boys. They high jacked even the wives of civilians while others fled with money meant to buy arms. I stand to be corrected if there is anything untruthful in this piece of confession. In fact, it was during this looting spree that Brigadier General Maada Bio got his fortune to become the only surviving member of the NPRC junta that has risen to political prominence in the country. If we use the NPRC performance as a yardstick to measure Brig. Gen. Bio’s leadership, then something must be seriously wrong with the thinking faculties of Sierra Leoneans. I don’t know where we are heading to. President Koroma had vowed that there would be “sacred cows” in his administration but he meant the contrary given the all time record surplus of sacred cows recorded in the history of sacred cows anywhere in the world. The country has become a free for all looting. What is the way forward brothers and sisters?
