I NEED SOME ADVICE PLEASE. Over the last few days we have noticed a rather unpleasant smell (no comments yet! Read on). It was in the garden near the water butt. We attributed it to some stinky plants we threw out on a compost heap nearby. Today however we realised that the vile odour was actually coming off the water from the water butt. I promptly drained the water butt and found a nicely marinaded rat at the bottom. So, it turns out we have been using rat marinade to water our plants including the tomatoes and courgettes etc in our mini greenhouse. There has been much washing out with bleach and even more rinsing (water butt, buckets, watering can etc). Needless to say the vegetables have had the hose turned on them. But do you think our vegetables will be safe to eat (given theyve been given rat rot water for maybe a week)? Im inclined to think its all OK. But I dont really know for sure. Advice greatly appreciated please.
