I SAID ID NEVER MARRY AGAIN, BUT IM SO GLAD I DID Dean and I - TopicsExpress

I SAID ID NEVER MARRY AGAIN, BUT IM SO GLAD I DID Dean and I like to say we were married from the start because we were, quite literally, inseparable from day one, and we didnt see the need to be married before the state. When youve been through a difficult divorce, you learn quickly what little that piece of paper can do to save a bad marriage and how needlessly and painfully it entangles you with our legal system when you choose to get out. In the end, logistics won out when we learned we were expecting Izz, and a legal marriage became the most expedient and efficient way to ensure that everyone in the family would be legally recognized and entitled to the benefits we as a society have come to attach to a legally married status. But, like the couple in this piece, we also found that a marriage ceremony (that admittedly could have taken place without legalities) put our relationship in concrete terms our older children could wrap their minds around, and it immediately gave them a sense of confidence and stability in our family structure that would have been impossible for them to have otherwise at their ages given the cultural norms in which they had been raised. And we did it small - just us and our kids, before a justice of the peace. They were our witnesses, and we have a marriage license imprinted with their barely formed cursive signatures to prove it. In hindsight, I wish that had been my primary catalyst for getting married again, but Im grateful that Izz came along when she did and inspired us to cement this family in such a way that her big brother and sister could benefit emotionally as they did. :) #family #divorce #remarriage
