I THINK THIS WOULD BE A GOOD START --Original post by Mark Phillips A vastly improved and fairer education system. *Meaningful and effective* workforce development/skills training programs. More rational/less political transportation investments. Personal responsibility. Compassion. Effort. True communication, which requires active listening. Smarter land use/development patterns. Getting to know people rather than caricatures; intentionally getting outside your carefully-constructed bubble. Honest, intelligent journalism rather than bombastic, biased blogs. Training to fight implicit bias in the justice system. Ending the drug war while making the punishments for violent crimes a true deterrent. A livable minimum wage that grows with inflation. A revamped system of economic rewards that recognizes the worker rather than the CEO as a primary component of success. Putting down the guns, all around. Actively listening to friends from different backgrounds discuss their experiences; making an active effort to HAVE friends of disparate backgrounds! Leaders who truly believe in the common good and ACT rather than bloviate and prevaricate. Willingness to listen to and consider viewpoints that challenge your biases and assumptions; attempting to identify your biases and assumptions (everyone has them). Recognizing the FACT that while formal, de jure racism mostly no longer exists, its very much alive in our society and institutions. Recognizing that people are far more important than buildings and property...but that in most cases destroying a building is destroying another persons - sometimes many peoples - livelihood. Roughly equal access to economic opportunity for all, paired with a basic social safety net for those who would still lose even a more fair/just capitalist game. Police with body cams; communities without illegal guns. Radical love that is so often preached at pulpits yet too little practiced on the streets. #Ferguson #JusticeForMikeBrown #GrandJuryDecision
