I Told You So! How many times have you heard that phrase said? - TopicsExpress

I Told You So! How many times have you heard that phrase said? Probably a lot as its been uttered way too often since nearly the dawn of time. Why is that? Are people not listening? As managers, teachers, parents and retailers, we assume that when we tell something to other people that they have heard it, understood it and have adopted it into their knowledge base upon which they will act forever more. Of course that is ridiculous but its easy to think that way. When you deal with employees, choose a simple message and be clear about your expectations for performance. Make sure the message is repeated in at least three different ways and by different people. Also be sure your incentive programs do not counter the message and repeat the message often. In fact, once you make changes you want customers to act upon, you must relate the message at least seven times. That means that you should be out there with the message at least fifty times for the target to get the message those seven times. Use different methods to relate the message for added effectiveness. Listen to your customers more attentively because, like you, they expect you to hear, understand, take into consideration and act on what they have to communicate by just telling you one time. With that in mind, consider how you handle customer complaints and recommendations. According to Barry Calpino of Kraft Foods, The number one consistent cause of failure is not investing in a good idea beyond just the launch. With the advances in technology that we have today to communicate, many spread their messages to millions. Those millions, on the other side of the coin, are getting so many messages they are listening less. The real key is to get your message across to the select audience that is important for you to reach - just like it has always been. youtu.be/xisYL8Rq0_I
