I WANT ALL MY FRIENDS TO READ THIS AND YOU SHALL BE BLESSED IN IT: What is a new beginning? It is putting an end to an undesirable event and introducing constructive changes that should lead to better results in whatever area of life you may have failed. It is moving from a sad past into a bright future, from the floor to the top, from the tail end to the forefront. But it does not just happen. Every event is invented by someone; every thing that ever gets done is done by somebody. “For every house is builded by some man…” [Hebrews 3:4]. If you want a new beginning, you must create it. Whatever has existed in your life before now that looks like failure, set back, confusion, depression or oppression will only come to an end when you take steps to create a new beginning. Rather than struggling and fighting the present, focus your energy on creating the new. This series is base on Bishop David O. Abioye’s book entitled: “Creating A New Beginning”. Stop waiting! Genesis 1:2-3, 31 says: “… The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. … And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good…” You don’t wait for a change; you create the change that you desire. Most people claim that they are waiting, not knowing that they are wasting. Waiting without doing something is wasting without knowing! The longer you wait doing nothing, the more failure overtakes you. If God was waiting for a change, heaven and earth would not be in existence today. You have waited long enough, start doing something! “… The earth was without form, and void… and the Spirit of God moved…” God is a mover. The earth was without form and void but He didn’t watch it. The Spirit of God moved and in that movement, creation resulted. Without a movement there cannot be a move. Every move is initiated by someone! You have sat down and folded your hands long enough; you have prayed long enough, it is time to move! From now, you are receiving a release of the power of God to make you move forward! I believe the reason God created days, weeks, months and years is for demarcation, so that we can have the opportunity of a fresh start, to change or improve on the previous. God is a God of new beginnings, every waking day, He gives us the opportunity to push the mistakes and failures of yesterday behind us and embrace the bright future that is set before us. Why do we have the night? It is so that you can sleep over the failure of the day, and wake up with a refreshed mind for greater achievements. Why do you have the sun rising every 24 hours? It is to give you hope that you are face to face with a new opportunity. Why do we have a new year 12 months? It is to close the chapter of the previous year and open a new one. At every new beginning, God is simply saying to you, “Forget the past and create something new, “So, if you enter a new day, New Year or new phase of your life with the mentality of the past, you are only cheating yourself. Your future is ahead of you, it’s up to you to start creating a new beginning. No matter how bad your past has been, there can be a new beginning for you! There are people whose lives and businesses have emptier than yours, but they are now employers of labour. The fact that you are sleeping on a mat today does not mean that the end has come for you. There was a time I slept on a bench for months, but I am no longer there, the story is different now because I was determined to find a way out and create a new beginning in my life. Until you create a new beginning for yourself, your life remains in chaos and confusion. Have you ever asked yourself, why is it that not everybody is affected by global economic recess? Why are some businesses or churches increasing while others are diminishing? The difference is that some are creating a way out of no way, while others have accepted their circumstances as the end of the road. You may see failure all around you, but don’t let it get to you. You can create a new beginning for yourself. Stop wishing for a wonderful job, create one for yourself! Rather than fold your hands, waiting for that crisis in your home to stop on its own, you can create the sweet home that you desire. You can’t afford to wait for accidental occurrences, rise up and put an end to failure in your life! Create the success that you desire! You determine your beginning! A new beginning also means turning a season of emptiness and dependence into that of productivity and relevance. Life begins with what you are able to offer to your world, so you have no right to talk of your beginning if you have nothing to show for your existence. Your actual beginning is when you have something to show forth to your world. There is a difference between existence and beginning. Something existed before God created the heaven and the earth, but the former was of no relevance because it was void. It was only after God had turned it into a place of relevance through His creativity that the Bible said, “In the beginning…” That means, your beginning does not necessary commence at birth. The birth of a child is his entrance into the world, but as he grows up, he defines his own beginning through his effect. Each person determines his beginning in life. Jesus was born, but it was not until after 30years that He had a beginning. In John 2:11, the Bible says: “This beginning of miracle did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory…” That means Jesus only has a beginning when He had something to show forth. Never mistake an existence for a beginning. So many have existed for 60 chronological years but are yet to begin living. May be you are a young person reading this article and you are still living with your parents at age 25 or more. You even get angry when they don’t provide food for you. For your information, you have been left behind! There are many millionaires today, who are younger than you, yet they are not thieves or dupes, they labored to make a way out of no way, fighting every adversity on their ways to create a life of relevance for themselves! Stop merely existing; you too can create a beginning for yourself! The greatest problem facing many people who find themselves on the ground is the thought of how or where to begin again. Some feel there are no use trying and others believed it is too late, so they settle with failure. But it may interest you to know that God called Abraham at age 75, when it looked as if the greater part of his life was gone. God gave him a new beginning. So, it is never too late or impossible to have a new beginning in life. Accept responsibility: Creating new beginning places responsibilities on you, the responsibility of freeing yourself from the past and taking steps to achieve something better than what you have lost, the responsibility of sincere appraisal and readiness to make necessary amends and improvements. Until you accept responsibility for your life, you keep making excuses and looking for a scapegoat to blame for everything that happens to you. And those who constantly look for who to blame remain lame. So, to recover from a fall, you must accept responsibility. Accept responsibility for your success or failure in life. A man of God, Frederick Price said, “If I succeed, it is my fault and if I fail it is my fault”. The reason many people remain in failure is because they heard of men who made their way out of terrible circumstances of life into greatness, just because they accepted responsibility for their lives. Somebody said, “It is easy to dodge our responsibilities but we cannot dodge the consequences of our irresponsibility.” People may have been responsible for the evil that happened to you in the past, but you are responsible for your future. Someone might have gained access into your future. Your future is exclusively between God and you. So, you don’t have any business bemoaning the past, you have all it takes to make the most of your future, because God has a great plan for you. When you understand this, you will not let anybody or anything constitute a stumbling block to you. No one is the reason for your being on the ground! Stop talking about one witch somewhere or somebody who hates you and does not want you to succeed. You know, the best the whole world can contribute to your making or unmaking is 25%. The remaining 75% is made up of your personal input. So, it is only what you allow that prevails in your life. Can you see then that you are your greatest enemy and your greatest friend? Rise up and accept responsibility for your life! If you disallow failure around you, it cannot prevail over your destiny. Even if you have been rejected and cast away by your family, refuse to blame anybody, just as Joseph refused to blame his brothers for throwing him into the pit and selling him into slavery. Rather, push the experience behind you and accept responsibility for your future. Some people blame their age, their parents, spouses or children for where they have found themselves in life that is a lazy man’s mentality. Like I said earlier, every event in life is created by someone, nothing happens by accident. That means no man succeeds or fails by accident. Success responds to acceptance of responsibility, while failure results from the lack of it. There is the story of Joni Eareckson Tada who as a teenager broke her neck when she dived into a shallow lake in 1967. Ever since then she has been paralysed from the neck down but the most amazing thing about Joni is that after two years of rehabilitation she has been just as active and productive as any normal (non-disabled) person if not more. She is an internationally acclaimed painter (painting with a brush between her teeth), she has written 27 books, recorded several musical albums and is actively involved as an advocate for disabled people. Not only is she the founder and president of an organization that accelerates Christian ministry in the disabled community, she is a recipient of many national awards, including “Church Woman of the year” in 1993 by the Religious Heritage Foundation. (Life Story Foundation / Joni And Friends –oneplace). Stop blaming people and situations for where you are! Start making adventures towards your destiny; start taking steps! You need time to fail, just as you need time to succeed, so why not turn your time of failure into your time of success? Fight all odds on your way, fight through the barriers and breakthrough into a higher phase of life. It is when you accept responsibility for your life that your brain cells come alive and you are able to think through from failure to success. I always challenge young people to leave their father’s house and fend for themselves, not in rebellion but as a way of accepting responsibility for their lives. If you ask me the parameter for measuring a man’s age, I will tell you it is his sense of responsibility. That is why there are young men in their 20s who are responsible and are making headway in life. While there are others at 50s who cannot do anything for themselves because they are not responsible. Somebody once asked me, “What is the right age to get married?” I told him, “When you become responsible.” Because you can’t be talking of marriage at the age of 25 or 30 when you are still relying on your parents for everything! If you are a parent, I’d like to urge you to let your children learn to accept responsibility. Let them face challenges and take up new adventures in life. Don’t over pamper or over protect them, let them grow! There is a man of God I know who was once a houseboy. Incidentally the woman he served became a member in his church and she now addresses him as “our father in the Lord”. Maybe when he was a house boy people tried to tell him that he would not become anything in life, but he accepted responsibility for his future and today his story has changed. Please, get committed to your life and let your spirit move over the issues of concern to you will you till you break out of a void and formless existence into a new beginning. The essence of accepting responsibility is choice making, the choice to fall or succeed. You cannot afford to leave your destiny to chance, you are a creature of choice not of chance, so you must make your choice and consciously work out its fulfillment.
