I WOKE UP LIKE THIS……FLAWLESS! Article By Beauty Palette ‘We flawless, ladies tell them, I woke up like this, I woke up like this.’ How we wish it was as easy as rolling out of bed and looking like Queen Bee. But unfortunately we all have 99 problems and looking and feeling beautiful can be one. Do not despair, we are here to play Beauty Godmothers and share with you some well kept beauty secrets. SECRET#1: IDENTIFYING YOUR SKIN TONE We are all unique and different and the same applies to our skin tones and types. Therefore it is extremely important that you identify your skin type so that you are able to give it the well deserved care. To determine your skin type, we pay attention to the T Zone as well as the C Zone. The T Zone is the part of the face that is made up of the forehead, nose, chin and the area circling the mouth. Most of the time is oiler than the rest of the face because it has high amounts of oil glands. The C Zone however is the skin that curves round from the edge of your brows to the top of your cheekbones and it is usually dry and flaky. Normal Skin: This is the crème de la crème of skin and thank your good genes if you fall in this category. It has no pigmentation, meaning you have a uniform color palette throughout your entire face. It has no scaring left behind by that oh so unbearable acne days, and is silky smooth with no blackheads, whiteheads and visible pores. Dry Skin: It usually consist of dry patches that are guilty of being flaky and dull. To the naked eye it appears to have a rough texture as if attacked your face with sandpaper. It feels tight and is a victim of vigorous wrinkling. Oily Skin: If evil could show face, it would probably have oily skin. It never hesitates to shine, even after numerous attempts to powder. It plays the perfect host to pimples, blackheads and whiteheads and those dreaded open pores. It is usually prone to acne which can result in acne. The selfie game becomes a battlefield. Better settle for climbies then. Combination Skin: Can’t decide what to wear, combination skin is also just as confused. It is made up of two types of skin types mixed together, being normal+ oily, normal + dry, or dry+ oily. It can be very complex to deal with this skin type because who knows which one to address first and which one to follow. Mature Skin: How we wish we could sip from the fountain of youth and be forever young and tender, but unfortunately if wishes were horses, so for now we will just have to make do with what we have. Mature skin has the appearance of wrinkles and lines and is no longer firm as it once was due to the loss of collagen, a protein that keeps skin firm, plump and wrinkle free. The skin begins to sag, stretch and tear more easily. It tends to become thin and dry up more than your youthful skin. Sensitive Skin: This is probably the most high maintenance skin type out of all of them. Veins are usually exposed and it is prone to red coloring. It is easily irritated which can result in stinging, burning, blotchiness and even inflammation. Individuals often have breakouts of rashes and feel tightness and discomfort. Now that you have hopefully identified your skin type, it will make it less dreadful walking into that Beauty Corner in your favorite cosmetics store being armed with the knowledge to combat the problems that may arise with your skin type. You can now have glowing skin without the baby bump. SECRET #2: CLEANSE, TONE, MOISTURISE This has to be incorporated into your daily routine and done twice a day. Cleansing removes dirt, oil, and impurities. It has to be done from the chin in an upward motion. When cleansing the lips, you pull them slightly at the corners, make sure to cleanse from corner to corner as well as the middle. This is done to avoid wrinkles. Toning on the other hand is done from the forehead towards the chin. Be sure to pat the skin as you tone. The action closes the pores, restores the optimum Ph of the skin and helps makeup stay longer. Cleansing and toning strips the skin of its essential oils making it dry up, therefore moisturizing is next in order after the two previous steps. It is mandatory that you use the correct moisturizer for your skin type and that it is hydrated well enough. Give your skin a little TLC and get into the habit of CTM. SECRET #3: THE SEQUENCE OF MAKEUP APPLICATI ON When stepping into the world of makeup it is important to have a clear roadmap ahead in order to guide us during the application of makeup. Products should be applied in the following sequence: 1.Pre base- it is applied in small quantities to smooth the skin by reducing fine lines and pores as well as create a smooth layer for your makeup to adhere to 2.Foundation- produces an even skin tone and disguises minor blemishes 3.Concealer- is applied to hide those unwanted scars and any marks on the skin to give a smooth and uniform skin tone 4.Powder- it sets the makeup into place . 5.Shader- for those areas you wish to hide this product does exactly that by reducing and softening them . 6.Highlighter- it emphasizes the size of an area making it appear bolder and standout . 7.Eye shadow- it acts as a highlighter through the use of brighter and lighter colors while the application of darker and dull colors act as shaders. 8.Eyeliner- it is used to define the eyes as well as elongate the eyes, lift the corner of the eyes and enhance or alter our eye shapes 9.Mascara- if one does not desire to resort to false eyelashes, this product provides the illusion of longer and fuller eyelashes 10.Blusher- acts as a highlighter for the cheeks making them appear lifted and prominent. 11. Lip liner- acts as a security barrier for your lipstick, preventing it from smudging and leaking of the lips 12.Lipstick- adds a desired color to the lips depending on one’s choice. 13.Lip gloss -it is advised that if your lips are fuller, avoid using it as it exaggerates them more. 14.BASK IN THE GLORY OF YOUR CREATION! As said by Kryolan makeup is a science, one that each of us can be an Einstein at with enough practice and the correct product use. Do not shy away from experimenting, with the latest trends and finding the one that best suits your personality. SECRET#4: FINDING THE CORRECT COLOR OF FOUNDATION We understand fully that it can be a battle looking for the color of foundation that matches your skin tone. It is always either too dark or makes you look like a ghost. We have got a little trick up our sleeves to help you test as many foundation colors as you can on the JAWLINE and the FOREHEAD. These are the correct areas to do so. Do not test at the back of your hand because most of the times the skin tones of the hand and that of the face differ greatly. Incorrect color selection or insufficient blending will create a demarcation line, distorting the shape of the face. It should be applied with a large soft brush or sponge. Apply to one area of the face and move outwards blending at the hairline and the jaw line. It should be applied all over the face including the eyes and the lips to give a uniform color skin tone. There are different types of foundation and they include the following: 1.Cream foundation- which is oil based, easy to blend, provides heavy coverage and can be used on dry, normal and mature skins. 2.Liquid foundation- which is oil or water based and provides medium coverage. Oil based: For dry normal, mature and combination skin Water based: For normal, oily and combination skin (on oily area). 3.Gel foundation-Gives a sheer and non greasy coverage and is excellent for black unblemished skin as well as tanned skin. Natural goes a long way and this product gives this effect/ 4 .Compact or cake foundation -Which gives heavy coverage, can be used on dry, normal and badly blemished or scarred skin. 5. Mousse foundation-which achieves a light to medium coverage on normal and combination skin. If it is not blended quickly, it will start to dry and create a chalky appearance. So next time you walk to that Beauty corner you will be armed with the correct weapon to find your perfect foundation shade. SECRET # 5: MARYLIN MONROE LIPS It has come to our attention that the red lip trend is not coming to an end anytime soon. It just seems to be trans-seasonal, so we figured why not just master the art of perfect red lips. 1.You need to start with a clean lip that has been previously exfoliated to ensure that the lips are smooth and do not peel. 2.Apply primer because it adds light moisture, smoothes and refines the lips. 3.Lip liner is next in order to set the lipstick and prevent it from smudging. 4.The final step is the lipstick application itself. If you prefer matte lipstick however, apply your first layer of lipstick then take a one ply facial tissue and put it over. Take some compressed powder and dab it across the entire lip then apply another layer of lipstick. Repeat process until you are satisfied with the outcome. There is no such thing as too matte a lip color so have the confidence to kiss as many frogs without leaving your mark on them until you find your prince charming. So ladies next time you want that effortless flawless look, just reach into your little bag of tricks and out them to good use. Stay beautiful and confident.
