I Walked To Arkaroo Rock And I Saw... A low grey/green bush - TopicsExpress

I Walked To Arkaroo Rock And I Saw... A low grey/green bush with spikey leaves, the Astroloma Humifusum or Bush Cranberry. It produces a striking red flower. The star burst on the flower tip is the source of its name , astro-loma. Astro, of course, from star. It also produces a delicious fruit. The seed inside is hard as a ball-bearing so watch the teeth. The soft flesh around the seed is sweet with a mild, fresh peppery after-taste a bit like watercress. (A friendly WARNING though, be very careful eating any native fruit or plants. There are several tasty looking fruits here that are toxic. Some possibly fatal.)
