I Will Survive Copyright Infringement https://nassaubar.org/Calendar/Signup.aspx?EventNo=7922 Singer Gloria Gaynor’s next audience is likely to be very different than what she’s used to. The Grammy Award-winning singer has scheduled an appearance at the Nassau County Bar Association in Mineola on Jan. 7 to speak about copyright laws. Attorneys looking to brush up on the issue will not only get to hear from the disco queen best known for her 1978 hit “I Will Survive,” but they’ll also get continuing legal education credit in the process. While it may seem an unusual choice to discuss copyright issues, Gaynor is no slouch on the topic, having testified before Congress on copyright abuse’s effects on artists. She was contacted to speak at the program by Nassau Academy of Law Dean Chandra Ortiz, who knows Gaynor personally. “It isn’t very often – I don’t think ever – that we have a major entertainment celebrity come to the Bar,” said NCBA spokesperson Valerie Zurblis. The course – scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Nassau Bar’s Mineola headquarters – provides three CLE credits for attorneys and is open to interested members of the public, who should note, however, that the agenda does not call for Gaynor to sing.
