I a big fan of james Gavin: his excellent Peggy Lee bio follows his previous bio works including Lena Horne which is full of revelations including the activist side of the most beautiful woman in Hollywood..a revelation. As well as his inside look at Chet Baker the coolest trumpet player in the international world of 50s cool jazz...with his androgynous voice and pin up beauty he remains indelible in the imaginations of women and men even today...in direct contrast to the ravaged face and lost of the physical ability to mouth his trumpet : the devastation of heroin addition. Chet Baker and James Dean remain today the iconic images of rebellious 1950 youth. Gavin has been making the pr promotion rounds..but this interview stands out for me...enjoy....and do read the book.
