I absolutely dont know why people would want to work retail. You try to sell things but sometimes no matter how much you try, people are just looking. You can try to engage them until you are blue in the face and still they are not interested. Hell, they might just be killing time. If you are the boss and you are getting on to this unlucky employee with the absolutely not ready to buy customer, do them a favor. Instead of yelling at your underling, go show your big time selling skills and force the uninterested customer to buy something, something pricey, a big ticket item. If you cant do it yourself, maybe you should realize that the salesmen are trying, but will not land a sale every time. Also remember, your job is to lead, inspire, and to teach skills. That is what a good manager does. Anyone can ridicule an employee and sit back and watch them fail. I doubt that was in your job description though. How do I know this? Because I have been on all sides of the situation, a non buying customer, a frustrated salesman and a leader, not just a boss.
