I agree with Paul Harrington on this. Automatic jail time for the owners, the breeders, AND the gamblers involved. Animal abuse has a direct correlation to violence in general, and many a psychopath has started with animals only to end with people. If these sorry excuses for humans have children, they need to be removed from the homes immediately for their own protection and provided with mental health care to help them to deal with the violence visited upon and witnessed by them. We are a vicious species with a fragile shell that keeps us from behaving like this. We need to bolster, in every way possible, the sense of empathy that helps us to be vigilant in our actions on the micro and macro social levels. There will always be violence against those who are weaker, but I do believe that, with conscious living and actions and INTERVENTION, we can get the numbers down. It is evolve or die.
