I also did the Annupurnna Circuit in 2005 and crossed the Thorong La pass in the snow without a guide. Finding fault with the cheap trekkers and requiring them to have a guide is not the answer, as the guides did not ask the trekkers to wait out the storm (or maybe did not even know about it) Better education and communication is the key. Even Minister Sushil Koirala said that the deaths were extremely tragic at a time when worldwide weather updates are available every second.
