I also live on the southwest side of Richmond and have had the same experience as Carolyn Hiatt. I guess I was lucky in that only a few decorative items were stolen, most were of sentimental value rather than monetary. I also called the police and was told that this kind of activity was going on all over town and you wouldnt believe what theyre stealing. My experience differs, however, in that a few days before the burglary a prowler had targeted my house and actually stood on my front porch which was fully lit. Luckily my neighbors saw him, challenged him (he said he was looking for his keys) and called police who were unable to catch him. The police did not interview me and they did not warn other neighbors. A report was filed for both incidents, and now I am removing all decorations from my porch (its going to be a bland holiday season). This kind of activity constitutes vandalism as well as burglary, and the perps obviously enjoy the thrill of taking things from well-lit areas. I realize that there are numerous calls to the police every night, but it seems as if this kind of crime, even when there is a full description, is not considered worthy of followup.
