I always carried ammo belts like this and linked ammo for machine guns with the round facing down, for two reasons: 1. Facing up, the rounds can fall out because theres no rim to stop them from succumbing to gravitys pull. The front end of a round is typically (always) less wide than the ass end. Duh. 2. If something were to strike the primer -- for example a rock because I tripped and fell or a machete blow (its happened) -- then facing down I wouldnt blow my useless head off my neck. With my luck, Id shoot my dick off.
