I always encourage people to remember that the 1930s were not all sunsets and lake cruises that were portrayed in the painted linen cards. Life was hard in the Ozarks and those who lived here had to learn to make due and make a dime off every tourist they encountered. Others still tried to farm the rocky soil. Dams flooded the bottom land along the White River, and farms were lost. (My own family had a farm at the end of Indian Point that is now under the lake)
