I always loved Eydie Gorme. She had a voice that was remarkable, and a stage presence to match. When Skip and I went to New York on our "Honeymoon", he took me to the Copa to see her perform. He must have called in favors (again) from one or another of his "connected" Uncles, because we had wonderful seats and, as they were airing her show live on one of the New York radio stations, what an amazing show it was! There were a number of celebrities seated throughout the room, but...believe me...all eyes were on Eydie. She brought down the house with a rendition of "Granada" that was so incredibly stirring that afterwards she remarked, "Even I liked that one!" On the way back to the Hotel, our cabdriver told us that he had listened to the show, and said we were very "lucky kids" to have been there to see her. I never questioned that sentiment. And I never forgot that special night. What a wonderful life she shared with her one and only love, Steve. I can only imagine how heartbroken and lonely he is tonight. Yet, I know he has a million memories to keep him company. And I have mine...
