I am 46, pushing 47. I like to joke that people like me are not out of shape because I have plenty of shape. Skinny people are out of shape because they are flat. I mention this to establish some context in the latest of Boy Wonders escapades. Boy Wonder is 15. Hed like everyone to think he is a man. The other day, I started relocating landscaping rocks around my pond into the pond itself, with the intention of building a mountain of rocks with a waterfall. I probably moved 2/3 of the rocks around the pond before I had to move on to another task. Now Boy Wonder is here with me alone, and he is actively engaging in butt kissing, after a recent episode between us. He decided to move the remaining 1/3 of the rocks for me, which was fine. I just looked out the window at the pond, and saw not one but two piles of rocks, one at each end. Coincidentally, the second pile happened to be right next to where the remaining rocks were located. So I looked out another window and saw Boy Wonder next door talking with the neighbors, and I hollered out to him to come back. He did so immediately, and I asked him why he had not put all the rocks at the far end of the pond together. He said they were too heavy and he was too sore. Hes 15. Im 46. I move 2/3 of the rocks without any aches or pains. Hes sore after moving 1/3 of the rocks about 5 feet. Then he came in the living room and asked me for the keys to the Jeep. What do you need the keys to the Jeep for? I asked, already knowing the answer (and for the record, I never just give him the keys to the Jeep in the first place!) Because I want to load the rocks into the Jeep and move them down to the other end of the pond. Really. Hes 15. Im 46. I told him that if he was truly that sore after doing that piddly amount of work, and I - three times his age - could do more work with no pain, it is obvious that Boy Wonder needs to work more around the house to build up some stamina. Hes in the shower now, and he muttered something about needing to rest.
