I am Catholic, so it always pleases me to see the word Christ - TopicsExpress

I am Catholic, so it always pleases me to see the word Christ spelled out in Christmas, versus the abbreviated X. I am also extremely sensitive to the issues regarding religious displays on municipal properties, and I have no interest in debating the constitutionality of same; rather, my wish would be for all to have access, so long as it does not serve as hate speech or have racial/terroristic overtones. That being said, it always amazes me when I am bombarded with vitriolic responses to someone saying happy holidays versus Merry Christmas. More often than not, its a courtesy in an effort not to offend someone if the person offering the sentiment is addressing someone with an unknown religious affiliation. Wheres the harm in that? Isnt holiday derived from Holy Day, and isnt wishing someone a Happy Holy Day a kind and thoughtful enough sentiment? I think its time we started asking ourselves whether we are keeping the Christ in Christmas by condemning those who may not celebrate it. I think its time we started asking ourselves what message He would want us to spread instead of getting caught up in the words themselves. Thats my two cents for the day, love me or hate me.
