I am Groot. To those who saw Guardians of the Galaxy, those three words were the only words throughout most of the film that the character Groot was able to say. However, it is clear that was not was he was literally meaning when he would speak, as his companion/fellow bounty hunter Rocket Raccoon was able to understand Groots dialect when the rest of the characters, as well as the audience, could not. Maybe the reasoning behind that is because we as humans are impure, corrupt, and cruel, incapable to understand a creature so innocent and pure. Rocket, despite being a bit vulgar himself, may also fall under this category, as he is truly a victim at heart. A mangled beast whose origin was not to his own choosing, being treated as merely a science experiment, rather than a living being himself. Tortured and forced to live through the own corrupt vision of imperfect people, Rocket himself is also an innocent being. Rocket and Groot are similar in many ways, including living their lives as rejects, roaming the galaxy, trying to make a living for themselves because nobody else accepts them since they are outcasts of society. Outcasts of a vile, corrupted society, incapable of accepting them for who they are.
