I am a futurist. I have said it for a few years now. My wife and others closest to me have said it as well. Nothing has proven me to be more than the implementation of the cloud. Hear me out. In 1998, when working at HeartPlace (A Doctor office at Baylor Hospital in Dallas), I developed a theory about the future of computers. Keep in mind, this was when a 4GB hard drive was huge and we were only on our second modern version of windows (95 hit first, and then 98 just came out, improving on the leap forward we got with 95 and setting many of the standards we came to expect with windows.) I said to everyone back then, that computers would one day be just like phones were at that time. They will not rely on internal processors and drives, but will be dummy terminals that plug into a greater network and all the processing power and actual computer work will be done elsewhere and sent to our unit we plug in for us to access and see on our screens. Well, skip ahead to today and an article I am reading about the Xbox One and PS4 lacking backwards compatibility, but that both may add it later through the cloud. The hardware of both Xbox One and PS4 cannot reasonably handle playing the old systems games due to difference in architecture, but with the cloud and the Azure servers, they will handle rendering the old platforms games instead. In other words...it is exactly what I said would happen in 98...the systems will rely on the processing on the cloud and not the Xbox one or ps4 to actually render the games! This is just a taste of what is to come from the could, and in my opinion (here is one of my futurist predictions) with the popularity of Tablets and their obvious limitations compared to traditional desktop and even laptops, they will be paired more and more with cloud servers to do the actual work/processing, and we will access it all wirelessly, giving us access to processing power that is far beyond what we could have on our own through a single device. Okay, this is really just a modification of my 98 theory...let’s just call it wireless dummy terminals. lol. Still...it will happen.
