I am a gamer. That means I dont care who you are, who you sleep with, what you worship, where you live, what race you are, what ethnicity you are, or anything except for two points: 1) Do you play well with others? 2) Would you like to join my game? (Fine, a third point: do you shower semi-regularly? I got body odor issues.) Thats what I love about gamers. We accept everyone whos not a dick and wants to play. Thats what our hobby is about. Thats why you can hit a convention and see a muscled jock sitting next to a goth girl next to a fat kid with acne next to a pudgy middle aged dude next to a mother of three. We are accepting of anyone who plays nice. That means all of those who hate are NOT gamers. Many other terms apply: asshole, jackass, dickweed, hater, self-absorbed idiot, and so on. But not gamer. Therefore, do not call them that. Dont even say, Well, some gamers are jerks, because they are not gamers. Say, Those asshats? Theyre misogynistic crybabies, not gamers. Dont even bother wandering into true gamer territory, because its not necessary. Reclaim gamer to mean what it should mean: groovy folk who loves games and other people. Games are the tools, the vehicles for spending time with people and enjoying human company, fun rules, and even winning. Just because you play games doesnt mean youre a gamer anymore than me speaking German makes me German. If you hate, youre not a gamer. If you love, roll the damn dice already!
