I am a member an independent Catholic Church, Nuestra Sra. de la Paz in San Diego Ca. It is a place where no one is judged unfortunately our parish is now experiencing judgment by a long standing Catholic institution in San Diego, Our Lady of Guadalupe. Believe it or not, a Jesuit brotherhood parish. The actions of a specific pastor in this parish are deeply saddening and tragic. To disparage and defame other pastors is inexplicable. These actions have caused the loss of worship space to over 100 people of Catholic faith: families, single parents, children, special needs children, and glbt community. This action of injustice against a community was taken by a Jesuit. I knew a Jesuit priest, Fa. Eddie Samaniego very well, formerly of Christ the KIng, and know him to be an inspiring and true example of social justice and building in needy communities. I know he continues Gods work in San Jose. He would never dream of trying to destroy any faith community despite its origin. He worked closely with many faiths. We all worship one God and as such pray to one God. Pastors and leaders of parishes should want faith following to grow on every street and every block in our communities. I am once again reminded of why so many people leave the tradional Catholic church. Thankfully Pope Frances himself said he is not one to judge. He welcomes all based on their merits of good. I pray the God blesses us all and shares his mercy so that we can support one another, not try to destroy the building of faith. Unfortunately, I do not feel this huge impact on families, children, and the glbt community can stand and will seek assistance for true Social and Legal justice. I am hoping the Independent Catholic Leadership can provide some guidance.
