I am a member of a group that I never would have wanted to join nor ever thought I would have reason to. The name of the group is GRASP - Grief Recovery After A Substance Passing. This group is for those who have lost someone who struggled with the disease of addiction. I am in disbelief and great sorrow of the number of parents added to this group on a daily basis. Truly, this disease is of epidemic proportions. We are now losing more people to it than to vehicular accidents. Please find a way to help those struggling....parents, siblings, children of the addict all need help just as the addict does. You can help by simply being a non judgmental ear to listen. By not gossiping about the addict or their family. By reminding those you hear gossiping that addiction is a disease and we wouldnt gossip about those with other diseases.
