I am all for a better way of life, one that is more inclusive, and accounts for all life on earth. However there are many within the conservation/ animal welfare/ climate change movement who have an extreme stance and operate through a model of rejecting things and shaming. To them I say this, do know your facts before you start disowning people and shaming them, that does not result in any positive dialogue, and it certainly does not facilitate working together. It is certainly important to express your opinion, and educate others, but you cannot force feed anyone anything. Be patient, have patience for others. Extremes do not work. Some individuals are more aggressive than others, while I strongly agree with the anti-fur and anti-factory farm groups, I think we need to find a more tolerant approach to combat those concerns. Yes it is important for us to reduce our footprint and yes the dairy and meat industry contributes significantly to it. However any solutions proposed need to be realistic. Not everyone is going to turn vegan tomorrow, and so long as the product is on the shelf, it is in the best interest to work with what is, as opposed to relying on wishful thinking. If people are consuming dairy or meat, encourage them to eat from local farms where the animals are treated humanely, also bear in mind even Soy, Almond and Cashew products come with their own ramifications. Palm Oil started as an acceptable alternative, look where it is now! Personally in whatever I do, I bear in mind a holistic vision and I try to strategize ways in which we can advance as a collective not as conflicting fragments. I want you all to have impact in the causes you take a stand for, so bear in mind that announcing dissension and choosing to shoot down an idea without knowing full well about it, is ignorant and does not invite anything but solid resistance. I would like to think you each know better than that. The wild is connected to human impact, if human impact is through industry, then that includes all forms of industry, everything we do! And well any thing we do, no matter how good it was when we started out, when scaled up by demand becomes unsustainable. Our numbers are unsustainable, and thus the demand we place on options (even organic almond milk, even renewable energies --- rare earths) result in Black Swans, unanticipated repercussions on a global scale. I am about solutions that work in the immediate future that take into account the largest demographic possible. I care about all animals but I am not an extremist in my views. I do not think it helps to exclude, shun and shame people, it is neither positive nor compassionate. Compassion is a non-violent state of being. Being aggressively for or against anything makes you live in a state of duality and dichotomy and that will seldom result in positive resolutions.
