I am also an artist. and it does not mean i inherently deserve money for my work. I cant think of any other line of work where freebies, trials, promotional deals arent a constant part of drumming up business. nobody is going to pay you to prove you deserve to be paid. you gotta do that on your own. its not an easy life. but its easy to forget that in this modern word most of our expenses (bills) are very extravagant and unnecessary. painters create works for years and years before people buy them. nobody puts a down payment on something theyve never experienced before. it can seem disheartening, but its actually encouraging. encouraging people to step it up. art is a very over saturated market, there is no demand for it and the supply is infinite, so instead of complaining that you dont immediately get paid to DJ or live paint or anything for that matter, focus more on making a product only you can make, then they will come to you, because they cant get it from anybody else.
