I am always a bit reluctant to talk about the Writing Matters - TopicsExpress

I am always a bit reluctant to talk about the Writing Matters events that I sponsor, knowing full well that a lot of you who read this message cant attend. So I promise I wont BADGER you about it. I would like to suggest, though, that if you want to participate even though you cant come, you might want to read our next authors newest book. He is Stewart ONan, and his new novel, WEST OF SUNSET, which is about the Hollywood years of F. Scott Fitzgerald, will be released tomorrow. Stewart was featured on Weekend Edition with Scott Simon this weekend, and his book is getting great reviews. Like every writer I pick to be featured at Writing Matters, I really love Stewarts work Let me share with you just one sentence that will show you the kind of engaging writer he is. This the beginning sentence of one of my favorite books of his: Tuesdays, Emily put what precious little remained of her life in Gods and her sister-in-law Arlenes shaky hands and they drove together to Edgewood for Eat n Park two-for-one breakfast buffet. --Stewart ONan EMILY, ALONE I mean, I read that and Im IN. Im going to breakfast with those women. Stewart gets into the hearts and souls of any character he writes about. Reading him makes me feel better about the world and the people who inhabit it. So. Ready? The next Writing Matters event will be SATURDAY, MARCH 21st, at 7pm, at the Hemingway Museum in Oak Park. The menu will be extravagant desserts and champagne. If you like, you may drink champagne from your shoe (slipper?), though I never saw the allure. You may know that I always feature a kid essay reader to be the warm-up act at my events. This time, there will be an interesting variation on that theme. And thats all Im telling you.
