I am always suspicious of candidates and even political parties - TopicsExpress

I am always suspicious of candidates and even political parties that spend most of their time running down an opponent or producing negative sound bytes. It reminds me of Jesus parable in Luke of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector; where the Pharisee is so confident of his righteousness and looks down on everyone else. What happens after such a person has defeated the opponent. What have they pledged to do or more importantly how are they going to represent you? We all know freshmen members of Congress carry little weight or sway with their colleagues and will be able to do little for their first term or two. So, the question becomes, before the candidate has won an election, what are their core values and what do we really know about them? What can we expect of them a few years in the future? And even more difficult to foretell, in light of the change in how candidates are funded, is who has paid their way and to whom will their loyalties really lie? Like the old saw says, Ya dance with the one that brung ya. And money will always remind them of who brung em. It is rare that an elected official of any party these days really listens to what the people want. They work for the ones that paid for their campaign and to whom they owe allegiance if they wish to stay in office.
