I am amazed at how much I was able to buy today for 10,000 dinars - TopicsExpress

I am amazed at how much I was able to buy today for 10,000 dinars (£73 pounds / $100 dollars). I help several poor families and disadvantaged or homeless children in my area including a family with two young girls, aged 11 and 13. After school every day, both girls go to the local supermarket here in town to beg for money. They rarely get more than 300 dinars per day from this and in the past 3-4 years of doing this, have been attacked several times. Both girls have been raped. Their mother tries to prevent this from happening, but it is a nessescity for them to go out and beg in this manner. 300-400 dinars means they both get to eat. Not much, but they eat. Their mother works but only earns around 10,000 dinars per month; nowhere near enough to feed an entire family, and pay for basic needs such as clothing, heating, et cetera. In fact, I learned that in their home, they only have a wood burning fireplace for heating, in one room of their home. Their bedroom is without heating, and they only have a few blankets. They sleep together for warmth. The other day, they were both here at my house and I noticed them shivering. It was 12 celcius. I asked them why they didnt wear warmer clothes or a warmer coat and they told me they dont have anything warmer than what they were wearing. With winter coming tomorrow, today I took out 10,000 dinars from the cash machine and brought them both to the local market. There, I bought them each a pair of warm winter boots, each a thick warm winter jacket, hats, scarves, gloves, socks, and tights to wear under their pants (as an additional layer). I also bought them both a burger and fries to eat. All this for precisely 9970 dinars. I gave them the change haha. A little money for me makes a HUGE difference to them. Its all relative. Now neither of them have to shiver in the cold or get sick. I try to do things like this to help them a couple of times a months. Sometimes it is books they need for school, sometimes its 30-40 euros of groceries. Both girls are armed with military grade MACE that I was able to buy. If someone ever tries to rape or attack them again, they have a non lethal way to defend themselves. MACE seemed like a responsible choice compared to a knife or other forms of defense. These girls are two of several poor or disadvantaged kids that I help in my area. Vasilisa, is another young girl I help. She was badly burned in a fire 2 years ago and has severe scarring on over 50% of her body. I am trying to raise the funds necessary to pay for her treatment for the next 8 years, until she is 18. It will require hundreds of operations at a specialist hospital in Galveston, Texas. Her family earns only around 35,000 dinars per month ($300ish dollars) and they cannot afford to heal her without help. One day, I will find a way to help ALL poor, homeless and disadvantaged kids in Serbia. This is a mission I have set for myself and I will not allow myself to fail. If you read this and wish to help in my mission somehow, please let me know. I am just one person. I only have the ability to help a handful of kids in my area and even then I am stretched thin. One day, there will not be a single poor, hungry, uneducated or homeless child in Serbia. And once I have somehow eliminated this problem in Serbia, I will direct my attention to other countries. I am on a mission people. Every child has a basic right to food, shelter, clothing and education. Every child has a right to be free of abuse. Every child has a right to be a child.
