I am an Athlete. I am a Runner! I dont really think running is an obsession. I think it is a part of who the person is or who theyve become. I know that something in my body isnt right when I go a couple of days without running. I have had to go a month or so without running and I know that I was chomping at the bit to get back at it. It was like a part of my life was missing. Most humans have the ability to run , but I think it takes a lot more than that to be a runner. Running a couple of times a week doesnt make you a runner. Waking up in the morning knowing that you are going to find time that day to run just like you have every other day makes you a runner. Most of those people have no running goals or aspirations. Running is not a part of them, it is just a recreational activity. We are runners which also makes it difficult for us to heal properly. We would rather run with the pain than to deal with the pain of not running. Most people will never understand that, but then again most people arent runners. And it has nothing to do with how far we run. For most, it doesnt matter if they run on a given day or not, but for those that are runners, it most definitely makes a difference.
