I am at around Phase 12 of my Mini Caramel Apples Project 2014. - TopicsExpress

I am at around Phase 12 of my Mini Caramel Apples Project 2014. This is the third year that I have made these for Henrys class in celebration of Fall, and this year I thought I was pretty clever to go to Nancys Fancies and buy a 5 lb. BRICK of caramel (for $23, no less), rather than spending eighty hours unwrapping four thousand tiny cubes of Brachs Caramels. Well, the brick has definitely proven to be a wise choice, and thankfully I was assured that its remains will keep for quite sometime with proper storage. The hassle I didnt anticipate was the intensely laborious task of scrubbing the produce code stickers off of every damn one of the 28 apples I bought for this Godforsaken treat. Seriously, Ive usually got nothin but love for Community Market, but when you go to the trouble and expense to spend $25 on local, organic apples it would be great if they werent still covered in little squares of what Id wager to be very inorganic adhesive after three rounds of soaking and scrubbing. I did eventually get the crap off of them, but may have removed all of the flavor from the apples in the process... Nonetheless, it will be a terrific thrill for Henry to get to share a special treat from home with his classmates tomorrow, and that little bump to my sweet boys self esteem is worth every moment toiling away in the kitchen. I cant wait for him to see them when he wakes up in the morning!
