I am attempting to process the idea that I actually have 1,000,000 people in this world that I can actually call my friends. One million friends equals one million miracles as far as I am concerned. Just imagine if each of us who visit this Facebook page were to share the positive messages that comprise this Internet site with 10 friends and family members, we could actually create a critical mass wherein what is called a "phase transition" would take place. This is the power of like minded people to truly change the world. I once heard the Dali Lama say that if we could take every child on our planet at the age of five, and have them meditate on compassion for just one hour each week, that in one generation we could eliminate all of the violence that is now so rampant on our beloved Earth. As the number of Facebook friends approaches and then surpasses one million friends the same kinds of possibilities exist. We are a force for good. Every ...loving thought and expression of compassion that we display toward others moves us toward the vision of a harmonious home for all of us. I recall an experiment where serotonin levels (the feel good enzyme in the brain) were measured after a person received an unexpected act of kindness, and they increased substantially. Also, the serotonin levels raised just as significantly in the person who offered the act of kindness. But the most astonishing result of this experiment was that the WITNESSES who observed these acts of kindness, also saw their own serotonin levels rise significantly. This is the beauty of reaching the one million mark in friendship on this site. By extending kindness and compassion to others, the giver, the receiver and the observer all get to feel good. Thank you, every one of you, for allowing me to be the giver/receiver/observer on this magnificent Facebook site for one million people. We can all become those little five year old children, all concentrating in our minds on a compassionate home for all of us.
