I am blessed to have such a wonderful husband. Miss Lena, our old Giant Schnauzer has cancer, and she has reached the point where it would be selfish and cruel to keep her...and so she has an appointment to cross over the rainbow bridge in the morning. Yesterday, Kevin caught her a lizard to hunt since that has been one of her great passions. Today, he put soft beach towels into the car for her, and we took her on her favorite past-time. We went for a drive. Early in the drive, we stopped at Wendys drive-thru, and Kevin bought Lena a Baconator, Miss Lena was too weak to put her head out the window, but she did bellow at a few passerbys while wagging her long thick tail. On the way home, we stopped at a local ice-cream parlor, and Kevin bought Lena her favorite...a cup of vanilla iced-cream with peanut butter topping and whipped cream. Of course, Lena ceremoniously tossed the cherry at him because he forgot to tell them to hold the cherry. :-) My heart is breaking as I say my good-byes. Miss Lena was without a doubt a daddys girl. I was disappointed early on to learn she had hip dysplasia, etc. and would never be able to work/compete, so she became Kevins companion around the yard etc. and the best snuggle dog which we have ever owned. Miss Lena, Lena pants on fire. I am going to miss you terribly.
