I am considering what to finish my new CMP walnut stock with. As of now, I have given it several treatments of Toms 1/3 mix (BLO, Beeswax, Turpentine) over the past couple months and it has darkened the wood a bit as well as a nice dull sheen. It looks good but I think I want to do something different. In order to try something else, I understand Ill have to strip it. I was curious to see if I could get any advice from anyone on terms of what would be a good finish for an M1 that will get handled/fired regularly. I would prefer it to be water resistant and protect against minor dings and scratches from normal use. I want a nice buildup but not too shiny. Pictures of what you use and the results would be appreciated.
