I am convinced that the Governor of UP has endorsed the best person for this senior constitutional position.. ........even though I would like Jawed to live and work here in NY..........He has very rich experience working with Four Prime Ministers of India and Three Chief Ministers of UP besides in international multi-lateral and substantive portfolio areas...... In his career spanning over 35 years with the Indian Administrative Service, Mr. Jawed Usmani has served at the highest echelons of the federal and state governments, including as Joint Secretary to four Prime Ministers of India coordinating key social and economic portfolios for over eight years. He also served as the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh for more than two years between 2012 to 2014. Mr Usmanis experience includes working with three Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, including as Secretary to the CM. In the international arena, Jawed Usmani worked for three years at the World Bank in Washington, DC as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director, and for another three years as Minister, Economic Cooperation at the Embassy of India in Nepal. He has conducted research on climate change issues in India while attached as Visiting Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University in the United States. In addition, he has served as Managing Director of a public sector corporation and Registrar of a central university in India and the principal field level functionary of the government as District Magistrate in two large districts in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Usmani earned his Master’s degree in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics. He also holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
