I am deeply saddened to hear the news this morning that my favourite actor, Robin Williams had committed suicide!! I am genuinely teary now as this amazing man has created some of my all time most enjoyable movies and I feel more of a connection with him as an actor than any other I have seen before. From Good Will Hunting, through to the movie that never fails to bring a fuzzy feel good emotional charge through my body, Patch Adams. This movie, portraying Williams as a trainee doctor who pushes the traditional rules of medicine to the extremes, yet reaching phenomenal results. Patch realised that humour is the best medicine and to get close to patients was not a bad thing but more over a much better way of enabling the sick to feel cared for and not just patient number Bla! The cruel realisation that the movies other doctor and roommate to Williams, played by Seymour Hoffman recently also met his end in unfortunate circumstances makes this movies all the more harrowing. The moment of the film that gets me every time, without fail and although its so soppy to admit brings a tear of joy to my eyes is when Hoffman enters the court room just as Williams is being tried for improper medical practices and has many of the patents who have been helped by him and places on Patches trade mark Red Nose. This gives me a shiver now as I truly do find this moment a magical moment. Lets hope that we dont have to lose any more immensely talented people to emotional struggles that are linked with substance misuse as its not the right way for these wonderful people to leave us.
