I am doing a survey for my English class. If I could have fifteen of you answer these questions so I can analyze the results, that would be wonderful: The average span of an inmate’s time on death row is eleven years. During this time, they live in a small cell. They are only allowed out of their cells to take a shower twice a week, which lasts only fifteen minutes. An account of one such inmate described it as “trying to find meaning when there is no meaning, to justify living when you are waiting to die; when the entire world thinks you deserve to die.” Do you believe that inmates on death row are deserving of this retribution? Why? Giving its effect on mental health, what are your thoughts on solitary confinement? Do you think that people in prison are deserving of solitary confinement for minor transgressions, such as being caught giving other inmates tattoos? The United States currently has the most incarcerations in history, second only to Stalin-controlled Soviet Union. What are you opinions on this?
