I am doing my part today to try and save what I believe is an important program in schools. As we see the art and music programs cut from our schools, we are also losing, and at risk of losing it all together, an important program that benefits our state economy. Without the FFA program California, which is the number one producer of agriculture commodities in the US, will lose out on attracting young people to the agriculture industry. I grew up knowing the peace and beauty of our states forests, but all and all I would have been considered to be a city girl. Yes, I grew up in a semi rural area, but I knew nothing about farming or what was really going on around our town. It wasnt until I stumbled upon the FFA program, snickering about Future Farmers, lol, that I found my true passion. I will never forget the total peace that came over me and and the knowing I was where I belonged on the first day I found my self standing in a wheat field looking across at the open expanse in front of me. Mr Jerry Delsol, my ag teacher taught me self confidence in myself by building my self-exteme. FFA advisors are not just teachers, they become family and dedicate more to their students than any other teacher. Weeknights, weekends and summers are spent with their students. I wish I had more time to explain what this program means to the future of our state, but I have to get to work. Just know that if we lose this vital program, we lose out on attracting those that dont understand or know the importance of agriculture from learning about it and looking at filling future jobs in this vital industry in our state.
