I am feeling very sad this morning. Last night the smallest, but perhaps the feistiest member of our little family died quite suddenly. My Rainbow Lorikeet, Junior, who I rescued 12 years ago when she fell out of her nest twice, each time breaking a leg. She spent 6 weeks in a cat crate with both legs in plaster and having daily physio (by me). When the legs came out of plaster one was as good as new, but the other was completely paralysed. The vet pronounced that either I had a new pet bird or he could put her down then and there as she was a walker - she couldnt fly - and would never survive back in the wild.(In this case, suburbia.) Im not a bird person, but needless to say, she has been part of the family ever since. On Saturday afternoon I realised she wasnt well, but she rallied on Sunday and yesterday morning, although she appeared weak, she ate quite well. By last night I knew that her short life, which perhaps was not meant to be, was done and this morning she was gone. She is buried under my big gardenia bush, near her best mate Ricky the cockatiel. She was personality plus and we are all going to miss her very much.
