I am glad there is an interest in what goes on with the Gibson - TopicsExpress

I am glad there is an interest in what goes on with the Gibson House and the Friends of the Manor. We dont have everything organized how it should be, there is a TON of work to be done everywhere, but hopefully the Community supports what is being done. Today, we start getting to some good news. a. Attached are the financials for the first six months of 2014. We maintain a general fund that has no restrictions on how the money is spent, and we have two restricted funds. Each fund is only to be used for a specific project. If anyone makes a donation with a request on its use, we will put a restricted status on that money. After hearing about how the roof is going to cost about $70,000 for replacement and repair of the soffits and fascia, a woman donated $1,000 on the spot! Thank you! And we still have a small library fund. A full blown public library is probably never going to happen, but a highly focused, theme library might work in Jamestown. If you have an interest, please let the board know. Every quarter we will post and announce the financials for the organization. b. The Friends of the Manor want to help maintain the Gibson Monument that is in Park Lawn Cemetery. We have asked an interested person to let us know what has to be done. Want to join in on the fun? Please let the board know. The monument is listed in the Art Inventories Catalog of the Smithsonian Institute. c. Also, the Gibson House has applied to be an Affiliate of the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. They themselves are an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute. Membership with the Heinz History Center will give us access to Heinz and Smithsonian expert resources and information. This affiliation will help us promote the Manor, help with restoration efforts, and we may be able to host exhibits using their artifacts. We are having a meeting, open to the public, Thursday August 7 at 5:00 PM. Please attend if you have questions or ideas or want to be a part of this. Dont forget the big Blow-Out Sale in the Carriage House on Saturday August 9. And as always, please post comments below.
