I am going to try my hardest and make this my last news-related Facebook Post so that Mikey Lehmann doesnt have to yell at me anymore. Follow me on Twitter where if you are so inclined, you can see me yell about things on a constant basis. After thinking some more about what happened, here are some more developed thoughts: I have honestly never been more disappointed in the community I am proud to have both come from and be a part of. That the suggestion that the U.S. launch a nuclear missile at Iran was not immediately condemned but rather met with a room full of applause, is deeply troubling to me. Whether it is the complete lack of appreciation for the enormity of the consequences that would occur if ANY country were to launch a nuclear missile, or the fact that a nuclear missile would 100% kill countless Iranian civilians, I am deeply saddened by what occurred. The comment and the subsequent clapping only play into the hands of all those who claim Jews, Israel, and their supporters, are a bunch of immoral war mongers who dont even want peace and would rather immediately go to war (as was well played out in a lot of media today). To those who dont think the comment was so dangerous, so immoral, and so stupid, I only ask that you consider how youd react if a highly influential Iranian met with a bunch of seemingly western Iranian students and was applauded after he suggested Iran nuke the U.S. or Israel as a negotiating tactic. The comment, those who applauded it, and those who fail to condemn it, directly contribute to both the lack of peace and help to prevent the possibility of it. There’s a saying that I hope to constantly refer back to as I pursue and hopefully lead a career in U.S. National Security: When fighting monsters, one must make sure they dont become one. Perhaps more people need to take that to heart.
