I am grounded today. My little blue truck is in the shop and here I am, searching through old Christmas treasures and traveling back in time. Tonight is the 46th anniversary of my first date with Brock. The 1968 North High Christmas formal was a girls date. Brock and I had known each other since babyhood, seriously. We had been in plays together and band and choir but we just didnt really see one another until Fall of 1968, our Senior year in High school. Then one day I looked up at the bass section in choir and there he was! I asked him if he would like to go to the Christmas dance with me and he said yes. Immediately. Funny thing...We did not dance once the entire night, but sat together across the table with our heads together and talked and talked and talked and talked! We talked about politics, theater, movies, great music and places in the world we wanted to travel to. We shared what we wanted to do after college. I wanted to write and he wanted to teach history. But mostly, my goal remained to be happy no matter what came and to spread joy to others. We talked about life...as much as two kids from Bakersfield (Oildale) could explore the world with one another in conversation, we two began a life long journey that evening. We were 16 years old. Now after 4 kids and 9 grandkids, we have grandchildren in college who are older than we were when we first fell in love. I dont feel physically much older than I did that first night in the North High Gym. Oh my! The seeds of fulfilled treasures from my life I found today because I cant drive my little blue truck! Thanks Lord, for reminding me of that Chistmas night 46 years ago.
