I am honored every day to serve families with kids fighting cancer. Last night, I spoke to a mother whose child is preparing to leave this world after a very tough fight. Talking to this brave mom, who laughed with me through her tears, showed me once yet again, what a special and amazing bunch of people who walk this hard path. We didnt choose this path but we are here for each other, hand in hand, heart to heart. Any parent who battles every day for their child, no matter what the disease, knows THIS....it sucks. Its tough. But there is beauty. Please dont think my journey is all about sad. It is so not! I am in the very company of some of the most amazing superheroes on the planet! And although we cry, we laugh too. I go forward with every single one of these childrens names imprinted on my heart...and that, indeed, is a blessing. My heroes are bald, they are under 5 feet tall, they ride IV poles, deal with ouchies and tubies, they know the inside of the hospital more than their classrooms, they are the toughest, most beautiful, most amazing kids. They might wear hospital guys and not capes, (although some do!), but that doesnt make them any less a hero. Today, I especially carry a little one in my heart. His name is Paulie. He will be joining Anjali soon...and his mother said to me, Paulie loves tea parties. It gives me comfort to know that Anjali will be there for him. Heroes.
