I am irritated and frustrated....We have this stray kitten that hangs out by our house it is adorable.....the kids (meaning Annie, Robert and YES, even the big kid Sandra) would open the door and allow it into the house in a shot. But we do not want to expose our other cats to any illnesses AND their Daddy has kind of said, If the kitten comes in I go (FYI, we WILL miss him!) Actually we are at the legal limit of pets for our municipality anyway. I called the animal sanctuary where we got 2 of ours from and told them the situation. The Mom is really, really feral but the kitten (she only has 1 at a time thankfully) is really friendly. They told me if we can get the Mom fixed they will take the kitten. I get it....I am not irritated with them. Why take on one kitten when she will just continue to have more and more? The funds are stretched as it is for these organizations. I am irritated at irresponsible, thoughtless, selfish people who continue to purchase pets and treat them as disposable. The true measure of any society is to just observe how they treat those that are the most helpless. We treat our sick, our elderly, our children and our pets as disposable. When they become too much of a burden or are troublesome we toss them out or turn them over to someone else for care. We are a sad, sad society who only thinks about the here and now and how I feel at the moment. When will we wake up? What will make us come to the realization that we are NOT doing our best?
