I am joyful and celebrating! I finished up my intense summer semester course which included my time at RMH as Chaplain and at Gemeinschaft Home as a Pastoral Care Counselor/Chaplain. This work stretched me to what I thought were my limits, but God showed me nothing but loving grace and affirmation for the direction of my calling. I would like to share with you a reflective poem that I wrote about my experience. Once upon a time, There were hurting, aching, lost people. I used to be oblivious to all the suffering. Oh yeah, I gave lip service, Did good deeds, and supported causes. However it was shallow of me. I really wasn’t present. I did it for all the wrong reasons. My world as I knew it, Was shattered, turned upside down, inside out. Oh yeah, I felt deep despair that Went to the depths of hopelessness. However a well of compassion Raged up within me. I felt others pain, Somehow my woundedness made me come alive. No longer am I stuck in the suffering, But I’ve become a wounded healer to others. I sit with others in their darkness, Meeting them with love like a balm. I reflect on their strengths. Inspire them with their courage. Encourage them to see their gifts. Share with them my beliefs in them. Nourish them with my unspoken spiritual presence. Walk with them as a traveling companion. Unbeknownst to them The Holy Spirit is working, interceding and filling them up With the capacity to face another day. Somehow they recognize they are not alone, Nor were they ever, But God was with them all along. All because of a listening, healing messenger Whom met them in their darkest hour, Their time of need Who met them by Accepting, loving, caring, offering gentle-kindness & compassion. But most importantly just their presence…. Their true authentic self showed up It was obvious they were right where they were supposed to be Living out their soul life purpose and vocation…..the Chaplain & Pastoral Care Counselor. That’s me!
