I am just going to make a generalized statement on US and what we do. We do require a home visit if it warrants; that being said the age of the internet and public records tell us many, many things including if your lying. We also have volunteers everywhere: all over this state and in other states along with many fellow rescuers who will help us out. Just because one of us does the talking and the actual adoption does not mean that others havent participated in the process. Sometimes out adopters come to us because they are former adopters with some of our other rescue frends. Sometime they are referrals from our own family members and former multi time adopters. Sometimes they are foster failures; our foster homes always have right to say we are adopting this one. We have fosters from Columbus, to Lancaster, to Anderson, IN, to Northern Ohio. We get LOTS of great apps; however, many times there is only one dog to adopt out out for those apps and we chose based on the dog and where WE feel the dog is best suited or sometimes would be the most spoiled :) and this is not always about money, just to make that clear. As far as home visits; you can visit someones home and it can be a beautiful home - all the fixin and the finest money can buy; but one never knows what goes on behind closed doors when you are not there. This is a fact! There are amazing people that live in average homes and there are bad people that live in mansions and vice versa! After doing this for many, many years as well as everyone we work with, the most reliable thing we have is our guts; and no amount of money or bullying can change our guts instincts; our love for what we do; our mission to place our dogs in the home meant for them, not you (no offense). So please know that just because you werent chosen for a dog, does not mean we think you ARENT a good home; its just our gut and our idea of what we want to see for a particular dog. Its a connection we have interracting with you and our interaction with the the dog we are talking about. We always reserve the right to change our minds as any good rescue does. First application in, first I want that dog, whatever, there is no first dibs on any of our dogs. You just cannot put into words in a post what the perfect home should be, because like i said its not about money, its not about how many pets you own, its about the right connection. And most of you know that not being a shelter environment where people can come shop; we are that intermediary that knows if its the right connection.
