I am lecturing next week at Montclair State University and I assigned the students an assignment to get a jump start on the workshop and as the emails start to pour in, one student sent me this message and it moved me in a major way. I just wanted to say that the TEDx Talk you did on Embracing Yourself, Embracing Your Potential really hit home for me. As a young person who is in recovery from substances and works a 12-step program, a lot of your words and phrases you used about embracing all parts of your life were very meaningful. The quote Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness, will we discover the infinite power of our light [Dr. Brené Brown quote] was right on target! Accepting my flaws, my past, and embracing who I am [is] something I must [do] on a daily basis to remain well! So I know the talk had to do about the LGBT community as well, but it was very significant and awesome for me too! To date my TEDx Talk was probably the scariest thing Ive done professionally but I did it with the hope that it would help a wide range of people, not just folks who identify as LGBTQ. I am so thankful I get to do this LIFE-work. What a blessing it is to know my words can make a difference, no matter how small or big. #FabSpeak
