I am looking at putting my Sociolo9gy degree to use in some form. I came across a relatively new sub-field of Sociology known as Astrosociology that has peaked my interest. Opportunities in this area seem limitless from what I have seen so far...basically most traditional forms of sociological research and ideals can be applied here. It is a field that looks at how space exploration and sciences impact societies here on earth, what can be gained or lost, benefits and costs, attitudes and awareness among peoples of all nations. Also looks at how the attitudes and awareness in turn determine level of exploration and possible colonization. When I was around five or six, the Apollo missions were coming to an end and the Shuttle program was starting up. I remember back then I was fascinated by space exploration, as I think a lot of other people were. However, over time, public interest began to wain and government support for programs began to fall away, especially with the fall of the Soviet Union. Public became disengaged. The space race fizzled. Cooperation among nations led to the development and construction of the ISS. More cooperation and involvement from other nations should be a focus of future exploration and research.
