I am looking for my ancestor’s (2nd Great Grandfather) port of origin, the ship and where the ship departed from in which Peter McDonald / McDaniel / McDonough came into America. Here is the essence of what I have to work with: Around 1858 Peter McDonald arrived in Wayne County, North Carolina. Peter McDaniel married Martha Vick of Wayne County, NC Apr 10, 1858. Peter fought in the civil war for Company D., 2nd Regiment of North Carolina State Infantry for the Confederate Army. He survived the war with two sons, James P. McDonald and William Henry McDonald. Peter could not write. The 1860 census for Davis district, Wayne County, NC Peter McDonough was married to Martha and says he is a ditcher from Ireland, and his son William Henry McDonald said his father Peter was from NY in the 1900 census. I have considerable research about Peter living in North Carolina but this port of origin evades me. If anyone has experience finding this type of port/ship/arrival information, please let me know. I am unsure what kind of document I would look for to connect his travel to NC. Thank you.
