I am not a huge fan of Mr Simmons, and some of the things he says...but I give him credit on this! I urge every person on my friends list that truly enjoys music and creativity to read this. Gene is right! Rock n roll has been murdered. File sharing has destroyed music leaving us with overnight sensations that will be unheard of in a few months. Real music with real meaning and real musicians is gone. No one will pay for it, so no one can make it on a scale like it was before. Unless something changes fast (and I dont see that happening), dont expect to ever see another icon anytime soon. No more Freddie Mercurys, no more Prince or Mjs, no more Rolling Stones. You wanna get famous fast? X factor style is the way to go. Nothing wrong with that but its not right for anyone looking to create a legacy with their music. I write music for the love of it, its not that I want to someday get rich off it. But I have also accepted that I cant give songwriting the time it deserves nor can I indulge in it, as its not going to pay the bills. (Try feeling creative after 5 days of working long hours) Illegal downloading is wrong, and I know I will get lots of flack for this, I usually do.....but at least I aint a tight git and a thief! You can justify it all you want but its theft!
